Travel to basecamp of one of the tallest mountains in the world (ABC trek)

I hope this guide inspires you to do the beautiful Annapurna Base camp trek (also known as the Annapurna Sanctuary trek or simply ABC ). We decided to trek up to the Annapurna Base Camp, in Western Nepal in October when the skies are clear and the weather is warm.  This trek is also called the Annapurna Sanctuary trek. It takes you to the heart, the valley of the 8000 meter mountains. And the perfect time to there is after the monsoons and before the onset of Winter, so the skies are very clear while being warm enough and before snow and ice makes it treacherous to trek near the base camps.  But as a traveler I also dread this time because of the crowds of tourists wh all also want to enjoy the perfect weather just like I do. But we decided to take the risk, as clear weather and scenery was worth the human distractions.

Day 1: Kathmandu (1300m) to Pokhara (850m) to Birenthanthi

The long distance public transportation in Nepal is notorious for being un-timely, crowded, dangerously driven, and full of unwelcome surprises on the road. I suggest you take the half an hour flight to Pokhara if

Goa of India, Pokhara of Nepal: co-branding.

India has Goa. More than a million travelers come to Goa alone every year. Whole of Nepal only has half a million visitors right now. But we have Pokhara !

Goa has an international airport. Pokhara could have one… here is a scenario:

How about linking Goa and Pokhara directly by air flight. Travelers would see such contrasting differences within a flight of 3 hours that it would be mind boggling. From relaxing in sunny beaches to sunny boating in the lakes of Pokhara amidst the highest mountain ranges in the Annapurna mountains.>

What travelers want is accessibility. The missing part of the puzzle in Pokhara is just that. It has hotels, infrastructure, beauty, adventure, hospitality etc. It needs the co-branding. (Goa could be perfect). Tie in with an established tourist hot spot that compliments it by building an International Airport.

Tag-line: Come Sun-bathe in the beaches of Goa , party hard and then fly off to watch the highest mountains in the world while boating in a lake. Then raft down for some adventures in in Seti and Marsyangdi river and top it off elephant riding and rhino watching nearby Chitwan and then back to

Tourism benefits from local autonomy in Nepal

It is amazing to see a hotel room with attached bathroom, hot water facilities and electricity and other facilities in a region where your basic necessities has to be carried by a mule or a porter, over a few days from the nearest motor-able roads.

I strongly believe in leaving it to the people themselves to generate business (entrepreneurship), while the government keeps its hands off. Let people taking lead in managing their own lives and their business.

The Annapurna trek area in Western Nepal and the Everest region in Eastern Nepal very much aspects leads Nepal in income generation and facilities even though it does not have a road link with the world.

Local leadership + Local business – government intervention = Good Business!

Here are some of my trekking and travel stories of Nepal. You will enjoy the read and the photos 🙂
